What is wrong with honesty? Why can't men just say, "I know the timing is bad and we date others. But want to get together for a quickie?"

It is easier and much more honest to increase expectations AFTER the fact. As opposed to promising the world and downscaling.

BTW, it is surprising how many women are into quickies when they are approached honestly about it. Some will habitually say no, think about it, and call you the next day. Worth the wait.
