The classic cause is fructose. It is apocryphally associated with white fat because of our weight gain/sugar use correlations. Apparently the mechanism also involves IL-25 etc.

Now we know the phenomenon is more research-based than a direct association to fructose, but the lesson is the same: Avoid sugar, and the white fat drops.
