Our experiences are similar. I went from 350# to 215#, my cholesterol dropped from 258 to 140 (fasting), and there is not one thing out of place on my bloodwork. BTW, I am 72 years old and I run 2 miles a day. You could call my current eating style low-carb Mediterranean, with a liter of olive oil a week on average? Oh, and I also overcame serious eating disorders. And, yes, I am a fan of low carb eating.
