One of the first rules of behavior modification is that it is hard to stop a behavior. BUT: It is much easier to substitute another behavior. I eat a low carb Mediterranean and I really eat well. I don't mind the sacrifice because what I eat is actually so much more satisfying. Chocolate? Atkins has a chocolate granola bar and chocolate covered almonds. Both are low carb and very satisfying. Some big-name chocolate makers also make sugar-free varieties.
I think we crave chocolate for a reason? But you don't have to consume sugar to have the benefit! There are weird things I will randomly crave: Curry? Is that because I am craving turmeric? No idea, but it keeps me eating it every few weeks.
