Not to disagree, but times were so different back then. Segregated schools were common, and the concept of dignity for all was sadly not a common thing. It is not an excuse. I was taught to respect all people. But I still remember the story when my mom was a clerk in a department store and was written up for saying "Yes, Ma'am" to a black lady shopper.
