Many years ago, I got trapped driving across I-40 through the mountains in NC, trying to get to Asheville. It was late and I was exhausted. I was worried I couldn't stay awake, but there were NO pull-overs, no exits, just mountains and highway. I was TERRIFIED.

There was a car in front of me with a red tail light. I realized if I followed that, at least it would keep me in the lane. FINALLY, I came to an exit. There was a hotel, and I asked for a room. He said they had none, but there were plenty in Asheville. He pointed the wrong way.

I had a hypnotist friend. She said that I had hypnotised myself with the red light to the extent that I never even saw the exits or lights of the city. She also said I was probably safe as long as the red light was safe. To this day I have trouble believing this really happened, but I promise you it is true as I have told it.
