I've been on low-carb Mediterranean for 20 years. I'm 72, cured of diabetes, I take no drugs, and my bloodwork is perfect. My fasting cholesterol is around 140. I drink a liter of olive oil a week. Those calories don't matter because of the different oxidative pathways.
Remember, it was Ancel Keys himself who misread his own research. Saturated fats do not cause high cholesterol. Your body needs them. They only cause high cholesterol in the presence of sugar. Eliminate the sugars and you can eat fats all day long.
Not for everybody. But high sugars are for nobody. And, sadly, that is the new American diet.
