In 1997 I changed to low-carb and I have lost 130 pounds. The weight loss wasn't so hard. Low-carb is a gift from heaven, as far as I'm concerned. What WAS hard? Adjusting your life to the fact that it is so much more than weight loss: Acting like a thin person took quite a lot of effort. Self-deprecating humor doesn't work anymore. Fat jokes no longer work. Insecurity should no longer be an issue, but that is easier said than done. Stuff like that.
On the other hand, I went from needles in my stomach to perfect bloodwork and no scripts. Not bad for an old man.
