I never knew this until recently., when a doctor (anesthesiologist) told me over dinner. But, apparently, I copy people's speech patterns. I wasn't aware of it, but it's true. Accents, the whole thing. Why is this relevant? Because I can often talk to autistic people. I recently was dancing with a grocery cart full of young kids, all throwing our arms in the air. I'm not even sure how it started. But the mother was stunned. She said the kids are severely autistic and that never happens with strangers. I assume it must have been that I understood their "patterns"?
